5th Annual Seed Swap: Free Seeds to Start Your Garden

Seed Swap & Giveaway

Thanks to all who attended Edible Evanston’s 5th-annual seed swap and giveaway.

Now you want to know how to start seed indoors? Find our seed-starting slide show here.

Dozens of vegetable and flower types and hundreds of varieties, including unique heirlooms and locally saved seeds were available for free to encourage people in Evanston to grow their own food and plant for pollinators. (A limit as to the number of seed packets per person will be posted at the event.)

In addition to generous seed companies and farms, you can donate seeds you grew and saved or seed packets from past years you don't plan to use. Bring seeds with you and we'll let you take more home.

Once again, we are partnering with
Natural Habitat Evanston and encouraging people to bring seeds gathered from their native plants favored by pollinators to share with others.

Dozens of unique plant varieties are available thanks to the generous donations from seed companies, including Bounty Beyond Belief, High Mowing Organic Seeds, Peaceful Valley/ Grow Organic, Renee's Garden, Scheeper’s Kitchen Garden Seeds, Sow True SeedSeed Savers Exchange, and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange.

These seeds are also used in our New Gardeners program and for the Eggleston Anniversary Orchard & Food Forest.
