Grow your own … shiitake

POSTPONED and limited. We'll discuss the basics of mushroom cultivation and the specifics of shiitake. And then the entire class group will work together to inoculate logs.

Learn about wood selection per species and other media needs, cultural location and stages, how to obtain spawn, how to inoculate, and fruiting times and forced fruiting. We'll also discuss the benefits your garden receives when you cultivate mushrooms.

After a half hour class period, we'll demonstrate the tools and all class participants are encouraged to help with "drill-and-fill" for shiitake or with a couple of oyster mushroom cultivation techniques.

Classes are free, but a $5 donation per person is encouraged.

We'll also start a discussion for the year on Permaculture Principle 12, Creatively use and respond to change.
