Mulch: materials, properties and what to use where

Registration is closed for this event
Keep that soil cover, but how?

Bark, leaves, straw, hay, wood chips. Living plants and cover crops. Landscape fabrics, rubber, dyed chips. Sawdust, shells, cocoa husks, rice hulls. Grass clippings. Manure.

Why should you use a mulch, and when and where and how much? How do choose which one, and what are the advantages and drawbacks?

These are important questions year-round, but come up each fall as the natural cover of annuals either dies or is removed ("fall cleanup") and the soil is exposed.

Come learn about this important topic and share your experiences. Classes are free, but a $5 donation per person is encouraged.

We'll also cover Permaculture Principle 9, Use small and slow solution
