Edible Evanston had a booth in the Emerald Aisle section of the Green Living Festival on September 28, 2013. We got the word out to gardeners and potential supporters and volunteers. Our 150 Gardens list grew with 11 new sign-ups and several more people taking forms to encourage others to enroll. We also grew our outreach lists and expect more attendees at future meetings, volunteers in the orchard, and produce donated to food banks.

The event theme,“Preserving and Protecting the Urban Forest,” tied into our Orchard project.

Evanston Green Living Festival was held on September 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd in Evanston. The annual event, co-presented by the Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) and the City of Evanston, has become one of the premier environmental events in Evanston and the north suburbs of Chicago.

The Evanston Green Living Festival was started to encourage individuals to make meaningful changes to their everyday life that will reduce their personal carbon footprint and lead to a healthier and happier life. The festival promotes this green lifestyle by providing a venue where local green vendors, exhibitors, and speakers can present to an interested audience. This year the theme is “Preserving and Protecting the Urban Forest” and we and looking to incorporate more companies and organizations.

he synergy of several fo the groups at the festival was wonderful, and new alliances may have been built. Thanks to all those who volunteered their time to get the word out!
